Meyrink's haunting tale of the stony road that possibly, maybe, sort of leads to immortality never fails to deliver unto the reader an unsettling mood and encounters with strange personalities. Many of the passages within are downright peculiar. Weird stuff, Meyrink's is; that's why I love it so much.

Old-Barbarossa It's on my list.
Last one of his I read was his short stories collection: The Opal.
I think his style works better in the shorts.
