This book wasn't badly written and it was plenty sexy but I found the hero to be overbearing douchebag for the first third of the book and the heroine was a complete coward in the last quarter. I didn't really like either of them enough to feel invested in the story. I felt the emotional relationship between the heroine and her sous chef/grill master/head line cook was deeper and resonated more strongly than the romance she had with the hero. I ended up feeling sorry for the douchebag and wished the heroine had more balls. or stronger ovaries.

There is a suspense plot that wends itself throughout the book but there were so many branches in the RS that it felt disjointed. The external conflict arc just didn't match the emotional arc and I felt like the many differing types of suspense elements where included to keep the reader off balance. It may have prevented the reader from guessing the whodunit but I kept wondering why it was there in the first place and frankly the several different elements actually made the romance less believable.

Bea I had the same problem with Sebastian!! I kept thinking what an a$$hole he was. And all the mysteries and crimes? Yeah, too much. I know it's a series and some of mysteries will carry throughout but even so, it was too much. Plus the book is marketed as a romance, not a romantic suspense.

Yes, it was very hard for me to warm up to Sebastian. He's pretty ridiculous in the beginning. I hated when he would go into her restaurant, make demands, and refuse to leave until she acquiesced to those demands.

Yes, he was so arrogant and overbearing. Embarrassing her in he rworkplace, in front of employees, customers, and friends? Yeah, nothing likable about that.

Yes, the scene where he makes sexually suggestive comments to her in front of the elderly customers was enraging.

Bea I liked Theo, I want to read his book; Val seemed decent and Cole was Ok, but I didn't completely buy into him as a sheriff.
