A dark book, difficult to read at times though very well-written. It is the story of a Jewish girl whose family immigrated to the US from Germany shortly before WWII. She has a terrible family life growing up and ends up in a terrible marriage. Then eventually takes on a new name and identity but lives the rest of her life as a lie. Depressing, but after I got into it I couldn't put it down. The ending was disappointing. Still, the writing kept me going and the suspense of what would happen, though I was ultimately disappointed.
