Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2)
by Deborah Harkness (Goodreads Author)
by Deborah Harkness (Goodreads Author)
Exerpted from my NetGalley review:
Shadow of Night is the sequel to Deborah Harkness' A Discovery of Witches. The sequel is a respectable and engaging follow-up. This series provides an entertaining alternative to adult readers that long for a good vampire genre novel without having to dive into the hormone-driven saga romances of teen juvenilia.
The heroine of Shadow of Nightis Diane Bishop. She is a witch and scholar, who is hunted because of her rare magical powers, as well as her forbidden romance with a vampire. In order to evade their enemies, Diane uses her magic to travel with her lover back in time to Elizabethan London, where they encounter a number of historical figures and settings. Harkness gives us an interesting characterization of historical figures, as well as an exciting plot full of action, intrigue and romance. At times, the paragraphs containing descriptions of action sequences can be slightly vague and require a reread in order to clarify to the reader, what is really going on. Nevertheless, I highly enjoyed this time-travelling narrative. I would definitely recommend both A Discovery of Witches, and its sequel Shadow of Night to any reader who is interested in fantasy, vampire genre or historical fiction.
