Odd Apocalypse (Odd Thomas, #5)

I love this book! I won an advance copy and have never read a Dean Koontz book before. Honestly, I would never have picked up this book had I not won it...sounds creepy and scary...not my thing. So I got lucky.
I looked through some other reviews and saw comments that no one should pick up this book without having read earlier books in the series. I don't agree; I was a bit lost with some of the context but still enjoyed the book and felt it was complete on it's own. With any book the characters had a past before the events as written.
Basically, the story centers around Odd Thomas, a cook who sees dead people. However, in this novel the creepiness goes well beyond mere ghosts. He is drawn with his companion to a rich man's estate and they are invited to stay - which seems self destructive on their host's part as much is going on at the property (not good things; really dark and bad things...).
I won't add spoilers because the story is just too compelling and so imaginative I dare anyone to guess what's coming next. But it's also so well written, with such great images and insights, I encourage all to read it.
