A huge THANK YOU to Around The World ARC for allowing me to read this ARC copy of Wake. Amanda Hocking has written a lot of books and this was her first Mermaid book. I have to say that this was my first Mermaid read in the YA genre and I give it a thumbs up. I really enjoyed it and it left me wanting more.

In Wake we get to meet Gemma and Harper who are sisters living with their father. Harper as the older sister takes on the role of mother because their mother is sick. Gemma has loved Alex for a long time and this summer is going to be the summer of firsts with Alex. As she is going for one of her swims Gemma meets up with the trio Penn, Lexi, and Thea and they ask her if she wants to party with them. That is when things go from ordinary to weird when Gemma wakes up the next day on the beach feeling weird.

When Gemma wakes up she notices she is different. She is faster, stronger and prettier than before. As she searches for answers to what happens she uncovers secrets and has to chose between her family and Alex and her new friends she has made.What will Gemma do? What will she choose? Will she get the summer of firsts with Alex? Or will she choose a new life and a new family?

Come along for a ride of a lifetime and enjoy this world that Amanda has created. You will get so caught up in the story that when it ends will you scream no....... no........ no....... This is going to be another Summer 2012 MUST READ to add to your already long list.
