I suppose being a young adult book, I can't be too hard on this story. However, I've ready many in that category, and still find it difficult to give more than two stars. The story is written as though for small children with content fit for audiences a bit older. It was interesting but not compelling. I found myself annoyed with the protagonist as often as I would a real girl of this age (in fairness, teenage boys annoy me as well). It was not a particularly deep story, though it tried to be. The characters were not very believable, and the ending felt anticlimactic. It was not a dull or long read, so you wouldn't regret taking the time. But be prepared to defend yourself against those who look at the cover and judge you for reading a trashy novel. Though that's not what it is, you can't tell from the cover. I found myself hiding the book more than a few times.
