This was really a 3.5 star book for me, but I liked it overall. Well-written, carefully observed, and generally an engrossing story. I did have serious misgivings about the ending, though, which is possibly why I didn't rate it higher. I felt that after the journey the characters take in the book, I didn't want it to go there. It did masterfully paint a picture of what happens to Ellen, the main character, as the world as she knows it comes crashing down around her. Just as enjoyable was seeing how she starts to put things back together in the harrowing months after her marriage crumbles. The "other woman" is deliciously evil, but written with enough depth that she doesn't come off as cartoonish.
