Fourth grader Anna Weng is having a rough fall. Her best friend, Laura, has become friends with two mean(ish) girls. Anna's mom, a Chinese immigrant learning English and attending nursing school, has become embarrassing to Anna, who worries about fitting in. Despite these worries, Anna has fallen in love with reading and devours book after book, including My Side of the Mountain/On the Far Side of the Mountain, A Wrinkle in Time, and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler. With a little encouragement and patience from the adults around her, Anna learns to be sympathetic and understanding with her friend.

Anna is a sweet girl and she has a variety of interesting projects and hobbies. Perfect for 3rd and 4th graders.
