Clements, A. (2007). Dogku. New York: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.

Provides a crafty haiku style about a dog named Mooch. After this hungry looking dog arrives at the door of a family home, the mother sees him and takes him in. The mother tends to the dogs needs by feeding and bathing him. The kids get to meet him and give the dog a name, “Mooch”. The dog spends the day exploring his new home and takes a driving adventure with the mom, while the kids are off at school. The dog becomes concerned when he over hears the word “pound” from a family meeting and by the facial expressions of the family it doesn’t look good for Mooch. The dog uncovers that they love him to much to give him away, as the dad comes home with doggy items Mooch then knows that he has found a loving home. Just like in “Love That Dog”, this dog was also deeply loved and had a special bond with the family.
