Robert I see you found the book. I really liked it. Some of the zen stuff seemed to be a bit of a stretch, and I'm not sure that you can't find a certain release in simply practicing scales and exercises, which they seem to dismiss here. On the other hand, the overall idea of the approach to music, playing from inside yourself, and experiencing music as a language of communication for thoughts and experiences that cannot be expressed in other than musical language is all right on target for me. I liked the analogy of the child learning to speak by babbling and babbling and eventually getting reinforced by certain sounds and syllables and thus learning language.
