In the short story "Our Pharmacy", Nafkote Tamirat brings us into the immigrant underbelly of Paris, a place little seen in the usual Paris fare. Two young African women tap into their entrepreneurial spirit in order to survive. Their brilliant idea: resell free "national health" medicine to their landsmen. In place of medical knowledge, of which they have none, they offer sympathy and advice. Deftly written. A seductive mix of tragedy and humor.
