I was thrilled to receive an ARC of Where We Belong through the Good Reads First Reads program. This was the first book of Emily Giffin's that I had read since Something Borrowed and Something Blue. One of the things that I love about her writing is that she brings to life characters that are flawed and yet deeply sympathetic. They are often people that you would be tempted to judge if you happened to hear about their situation in real life, but she takes you right into the heart of the tough choices, regrets and redemption that define them.
Where We Belong centers on two characters: Marian, a mid-thirties television producer living a glamorous life in New York, and Kirby, the teenager that Marian gave up for adoption eighteen years ago. Kirby appears on Marian's doorstep one day, sending both of their lives slightly off kilter (for the better).
While I enjoyed the basic storyline and the writing, I felt that the book ended a bit abruptly, which is why I decided to give it three stars. I would definitely recommend it as an easy beach read for the summer though.
