Look, there was no way this was going to 100% live up to the hype, but it came pretty close. In the age of dystopia, you've gotta do something to make yourself stand out, and Roth's idea of factions is clever, if not particularly believable. I find children being forced to fight to the death a little easier to swallow than people peacefully dividing themselves into factions and then coexisting, and allowing the selfless ones among them all the political power. The biggest surprise in this book wasn't the rebellion, it was that rebellion took so long to happen.

Also, for a five hundred page novel, there isn't an awful lot of world building. There are factions, there are even nominal reasons to have factions, but there's not enough.

Still! The actual execution was well done, she's a solid writer, and her action sequences are some of the best I've read. I am definitely going to keep reading.
