A very different kind of story, but it will stick with me. Michael Marshall Smith's "The Servants" was an addictive read, luring me into the tale, making me want to find out more with each page.

Mark is an 11-year-old boy who moves near the beach with his ailing mother and new stepfather, not realizing how sick his mom actually is. He meets an old lady who lives in the old servant's quarters in the basement, a lady who literally unlocks a whole new world for him.

Sad at times, uplifting in others, this is a great read for people of all ages.
