I can't believe I never got around to read this anti-utopian novel. It is a perfect political satire of then Communist Russia, showing how ideas of equal society lead to even worse state of tyranny. Human shortcomings, such as greed, selfishness, dishonesty cruelty, will always prevail. Unfortunately we tend to forget history's lessons and make the same mistakes over and over again. I was born during the collapse of Soviet Russia and witnessed how privileged were those closed to the Party in spite of lack of resources for everybody else. Interestingly most people didn't mind the bread lines and the iron curtain as long as they were building the "bright future". Now, twenty something years later the government Propaganda is in full force again instilling slightly altered ideas. And mind you the Western society shouldn't forget about Orwell's novel either.
