Night Shift collects 20 of King's earliest short stories. I was primarily drawn to this collection because two of the stories concern 'Salem's Lot which I had just finished. Those two stories were interesting, the one set prior to 'Salem's Lot less so then the one set following, but that's neither here nor there.

I can't say each and every story really excited me, but, there weren't any that lulled me to sleep either. As far as compilations go, this is definitely one of the best I've encountered.

I think this is a great book for the casual King fan, it really expresses a great range. Night Shift has me excited to delve into Skeleton Crew, King's second short story collection. Any book that makes you want another is a good book in my opinion!
