Of interest:

It takes more than 1 calorie of fossil fuel energy to produce 1 calorie of food in industrialized farming.

Before chemical fertilizers, farms produced more than 2 calories of food energy for every calorie invested in production.

This book is so engagingly written. I enjoyed it as much as I would the most fabulous novel. Michael Pollan does his research. He is a very smart guy who assumes that his readers are also smart; he neither talks down to us nor does he use unnecesarily academic language. Plus, his subject matter is important. I have renewed my commitment to CSAs, eating locally, and growing some food, too.
