this was exactly okay for me. i didn't dislike it, but i also didn't think it was that great. a lot of her experiments etc, to increase her happiness seemed pretty common sensical and not all that ground-breaking. it did make me think a lot about my own life and "happiness level," so that was good. and there was one statistic in there that has stuck with me and been useful -- it takes at least 6 seconds of embracing for oxytocin (the "bonding" chemical) to be released. i have tried to implement this knowledge in our family when the kids are driving me crazy. in fact, it kind of became a running joke for a while. whenever they were being ridiculous i'd make them come and give me a hug for at least 6 seconds. and you know what? a lot of the time it really did help to get us to all lighten up. so, that's about that. i didn't technically finish the book -- i think i got through april maybe (it's a year long experiment), but i read it for book club and it was due back to the library before i was done. i didn't feel the need to renew it.
