it was amazing
bookshelves: modern-literature, short-stories
Read from June 12 to 15, 2012

Someday I will teach a creative writing course. And when I do, I now know what will be the textbook I will use: Kevin Wilson's eclectic debut of short stories. His style is so original and fresh, so realistic but each with a little touch of the surreal. Think Kafka, O'Connor and Munro all mixed up into one.

Each one has something to teach here--narration, perfect first and last lines, point-of-view, conflict, theme, characterization, irony. I could easily compose curriculum around this vibrant collection. And I will one day.

So if I could find all of the students who ever told me they plan to become writers (and many of them are on GoodReads and may happen upon this review), I would tell them to drop everything and read this book! Then re-read it.
