I read a collection of Pooh stories to my son in utero and was really annoyed that they had taken seemingly random stories, out of order, from both Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. I wanted the originals, with ALL the stories in an order that made sense. So I found hardcover editions at a book sale and now we're reading them over again (my boy is 8 months old now).

The stories are endearing and very funny in places. The animals all have the mentality and logic of a child, and react and respond to things the same way Christopher Robin would, wanting to be thought brave and smart and to think that what they have is better than anyone else. This rubs me the wrong way at times since what they do is sometimes for selfish reasons, but overall they are cute stories. I do think that some of the quotes in the book get taken out of context and used to sound like they are much sweeter and more profound than they are in the original context. (For example, Piglet's quote about "it's so much friendlier with two" was said in hopes that Pooh wouldn't leave him to deal with a Heffalump or a Woozle by himself, because he was scared... not in any commentary on friendship.)

I really love the illustrations and I think they are just as charming in black and white as they were in color (in my previous treasury edition).
