Though in so many ways, neither Cecily or Gwenhwyfar are likeable characters (though each does slowly grow & grow on you), this remains an enjoyable read - if you have an interest in history. I recommend that people may want to read the historical note that follows the story first if they have no familiarity with medieval European life. It also shines a direct light on the prejudice and bias of each group of people against the other. From the perspective of the 21st century, this is a bitter pill to swallow. Also, it well represents the brutality that colonialism creates. A worthwhile read, but I don't expect to pick it up a second time.
