Read from June 12 to 22, 2012

If Terry Gilliam were an optimist, this would be his Brazil. Robin tweaks the contemporary world into fiefdoms and catapults in ways that keep me checking Wikipedia for what's real and what's a clever invention. He's matured his best short story into a more rounded, complex novel with a much wider cast and deeper explorations of its plot and its themes. I'm both impressed by the progress Robin's writing has made, and ready for the next book, because by 2016 he should be rivaling Neal Stephenson.
