Lord of Light

by Roger Zelazny
This is one of those books I respect the heck out of, even while I don't enjoy it enough to read it as often as I kinda think I should. Zelazny's blend of comparative religion and myth-rewriting, with just enough tech peeking through the silk and feathers to make it clearly an SF tale, is luscious and gripping.
That said, ultimate there's a lot more style than substance here, and, moreso than most myths, the narrative is a bit threadbare.
Still, I'd rate this as one of those "must-read" SF books for a lot of readers and writers.
Also makes me want to crack open some of the other Zelazny books from the shelves.
