I wavered between 3 and 4 stars on this one. Amelia goes to Asher Falls, South Caroline to restore an old cemetery and gets enmeshed in a town too-long isolated from the rest of the world. All the trappings of a gothic romance are here: the wealthy family with the patriarchal tyrant living in a hilltop mansion, a young man destined to inherit the family wealth, spooky/mysterious/crazy locals, a useless sheriff, a stray dog, a crazy bird lady (well actually there are two of those), ghosts and thunderstorms.

There were some things in this story that were very obvious from the start. And while this installment in The Graveyard Queen series was not the best, it was I believe, necessary to set up the 3rd book (or at least I'm hoping so). Again, Amanda Stevens does a great job of setting up the creepy atmosphere. I got sucked right into the feeling of "place" that permeates the story.

I could not put this down and read it in 2 days and cannot wait to see how Amelia's life turns out.
