really liked it
bookshelves: children-s-literature

Summary: A little girl receives a pair of shoes for her birthday from her grandfather. The rest of her relatives give her objects that match the previous gift and, ultimately, match the shoes from grandpa. However, the only thing the girl wants is a pair of blue jeans.

Uses: Use this text for shared reading in the classroom. The children will love repeating the silly phrases. Also, think about playing memory with this book. Maybe suggest to a tomboy who can relate or to a girly girl who needs a lesson in simplicity.

Literary Devices: repetition, rhymes

Social issues: family, being grateful, simplicity, being a tomboy

Other: The illustrations are quite wonderful, especially the last page where all of the previous gifts serve as the background.
