The Immortal Rules is the first book in an all new series by Julie Kagawa. This book gets away from fairies and goes darker into the world of vampires with a dystopian twist.

Allie is a teen girl who lives on the streets, well in an old building but you get the drift. She has a gang of unregistered that she bunks with. Unregistered are the humans who don't register with vampires so they can't be used as food banks for the vamps. The only problem is as an unregistered you don't get given food like the registered. Therefore the unregistered have to scrounge for whatever food they can find even if it moldy just to stay alive.

Allie is out savaging one night outside the city in the ruins and stumbles across an old shed basement that is filled with a ton of canned goods. Unfortunately she didn't bring anything to carry it back with so she decides to get the rest of her group and come back for it. On her way back she has to go through a tunnel and comes across some mole men going to attack a stranger. The stranger turns out to be a vamp and kills the mole men. But he let's Allie escape. Allie brings the rest of the group back out to collect the bountiful treasure but they are attacked by rabies and two of the members are lost. Allie saves her closest friend almost brother and in turn is attacked by the rabids. But you could say luckily for her her vamp friend lol finds her and offers he the choice to die or become a vampire. She tells he she doesn't want to die.

Allie learns that Kanin is a master vampire so he has the ability to turn other people into vampires but most vamps can't. She also learns that he is an outcast because he is the reason that rabids exist. Kanin is the one who wanted to help the humans so he gave them live vampire lab rats to experiment on. Thus rabids were born. Kanin taught Allie almost everything that she needed as a vamp to stay alive. Then he was kidnapped and she was on her own.

While on her own Allie met a group a wanderers and she joined them without telling them her big secret. Allie saves the group a couple of times but them they find out that she is a vampire and banish her. Then the group is in trouble but luckily for them Allie was following them. She comes to their rescue again and saves most of the group. That end up rejoins and finding the city of Eden that they had been looking for from the start. The only problem is that Allie is not allowed to go with them because she is a vampire. She leaves in search of her maker Kanin because she has been having dreams that he is in trouble.

Okay so really liked this book read in in about 5 hours. It was super good and a quick read. It keeps the reader interested and is action packed. The main character Allie is an amazing heroine. She is independent, strong willed, feisty and also has a soft side despite her being a kick ass vampire. This is a great start to a new series. I can't believe that Julie Kagawa can master fairies and vampires. And be amazing at both. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
