** spoiler alert ** This book is part two of the first vampire diaries. This book has a little more drama though with the involvement of more characters. Elena was better developed and I can experience her problems with more understanding than in the first book. It starts of with Elena questioning Damon on the whereabouts of Stephen who disappeared. Damon tries to flirt with Elena, but she refuses to do anything with him and denies her hidden feelings about him- even to herself. She knows that Damon can't be trusted, and what makes it worse is that he is Stephens brother. So she asks her best friend, Bonnie, for help instead. Bonnie is a witch with supernatural powers and helps to locate Stephen. He was trapped in a well. And practically dying so Elena gave him her blood to save him.
Later on in the book, Caroline wants to reveal the vampires and takes Elenas diary to read to the town. Damon said he would help in exchange for for others blood. When they exchange, he just switches Elenas diary with Caroline. Elena then leaves and drives in really bad weather. She gets into an accident and turns into a vampire. This was an interesting part of the book because it ends with her waking up as a vampire. This left me to want to read the next book in the series because I know that Elena doesn't want to be a vampire.
