My first Terry Pratchett ever, I found Thief of Time to read very smoothly and still be engaging and interesting. The author has a unique way of mixing deep philosophical and anthropological thought with hilarious humour. Especially the character of Death is simply priceless.
However, I noticed a large decrease in quality during the second half of the novel. Scenes suddenly stretched out too long, jokes got a little lame, some characters (Susan, especially) seemed shallow and annoyingly overdone. I also wasn't quite happy with the ending and the solutions to things the reader was made to wonder about during the first parts; it sort of felt as if Pratchett went a little too traditional fantasy on a few things, where he could have easily made an interesting twist instead.
Still, I would recommend this as a good read and a book that, although a very light read, takes a imaginative look beneath the surface of ordinary every-day-things.
