bookshelves: childrens-literature
Read in June, 2012

Audience: The book is listed to be appropriate for ages 8-up, grades 2nd-up. I personally did not feel that this read was age appropriate for a 2nd grader. This book was geared more for boys and girls 3rd grade and up. There is quite a bit of scientific lingo and it is a longer book at 72 pages.

Appeal: Anyone that loves wildlife and rescue stories. The general idea of learning about an animal that was nearly extinct is really neat. It will open eyes to the process that the animal scientists went through to rescue the kakapo. The real life photos really give that extra oomph on how beautiful the natural world can be.

Award List: Robert F. Sibert Medal Honor Book 2011.
