I was looking forward to this release. The reviews were good. I love a good mystery/murder lit read. And after the most enjoyable experience reading Daniel Woodrell's Winter's Bone, the Missouri connection is a draw, but so far the author's habit of over-descriptiveness and coining of goofy phrases (Mytwingo) is driving me nuts. I debated whether or not to continue. I usually bail very early on if I don't like the writer's style. But I do like that the story is being told through alternating narration, the husbands experience in the present and the wife's diary entries in the past. Guess I will suffer through the extra clutter of spice of dribbled bourbon, the tang of old popcorn, the sister's warm and crinkly voice, the gray-suited world of investment banking, rocket-science brains and rodeo spirits, etc etc etc, all crammed in one or two paragraphs. Hopefully I will be rewarded;>

Janette Liddle There was potential here, but, ugh, her writing style should have been the least of my worries. Turned into an unbelievably bad Lifetime movie plot on me;(

Dayna I agree completely.

Sandra I also, I made it to the end of the book but wondered why I bothered.

Pk Trust me. You will NOT be rewarded.

Paula Well stated, Janette. Very much what I would have said myself if I'd given myself a bit more time to reflect rather than reviewing it the same day I finished it.

Kathleen Valentine I thought the ending was a huge cheat. Jeez....

Kathleen Crowell I was with you at the halfway point of the book, but when I finished I realized that I'm not always supposed to like the story or the characters (goofy phrases excluded!) As crazy as the story really was, and it is fiction after all, it was so well done. I had to rethink what it is I want out of a book (see my review) anyway. I can totally relate to what you wrote!

Heather I also was not a huge fan....could not get into it until about 160 pages in when Andie was introduced....it got good for a while but then died down. Also not sure if I 'get' the ending....

Amanda i totally hate the ending its like they both just give up and deceide to be miserable with each other...wat was the point of the whole book? they just end up doing wat they were doing at the beggining just add a baby

Kathleen Valentine I'm really glad people are talking about this. I'm glad it's not just me.
