I enjoyed this book for the most part, but by the end I knew I was going to be disappointed. It has an interesting premise and I found myself asking the same questions and wondering about the same things as the characters. And the writing style was engaging; it felt like talking to a friend. But at the end, the only answers I got were the ones I had already figured out, and I was left wondering about plenty of other things that I thought were kind of important plot points. I sort of get the feeling that Ishiguro intentionally gives a dissatisfying ending, but I'm not really sure why. I am not one who always expects things to have a happy ending or for everything to be wrapped up in a nice little package. But for all the suspense and anticipation, there didn't seem to be much payoff. I guess maybe that's the point. But I still don't get what all the acclaim was for. Oh well.
