Oh my, how had I not heard of Samantha until recently? I absolutely, positively could not put this book down and when I finished it, I had to start book two Original Sin immediately. There is something I find completely addicting about Samantha's writing. I am not sure what it is exactly, but it pulls me in and will not let me go.

Here are a few of the many things I liked about this book:

*The lore. It had so many familiar elements that it seemed "true", yet had so many new elements that the story was fresh. I love the idea of the Varcolac and her being the only known female to survive the transformation (I hope that was not spoilerish).

*I also loved the characters, especially the ones I did not even like. I know that sounds weird, but I had a very difficult time liking some of the characters and that made them amazing characters. Nathan, for instance, was not a character I would ever want to meet in real life, but he was so compelling on the page that I wanted to learn more and more about him.

*I thought the pace of the book was perfect. I think that was a big part of why I could not put it down.

*Being an American reader, I highly enjoyed the slang and word choice used in this book. It did take me a few chapters to get used to the spelling differences of a book published in the UK, but after that I was able to completely immerse myself in the lingual differences.

I just loved this book and loved the second book in the series even more. I think if I had read this book before Original Sin was released, I may have been upset by the ending because I would be compelled to keep reading. Since Original Sin is out, I was happy with it.
