I couldn't put this down and finished it in two days. Totally enthralling and amazing. A real page-turner mystery from the past. Showed me a side of modern Chinese history I didn't learn at uni. For a jaded reader like me who doesn't often find a book that is all-engrossing, this book has made the most impact of any in a very, very long time. Completely haunted and disturbed by it. To the memory of Pamela.
