It was a fitting conclusion to the first Mars trilogy. I ended up enjoying all three more than I thought I would. It is interesting to read something that is about 100 years old but is still relevant today. I really enjoyed the unwavering honor that John lived his life by. He was not a complex character and I found that comforting. I recommend all three books. The books started to get a little repetitive towards the end. Every chapter had John facing insurmountable odds, overcoming them, and then only to be thwarted by the evil antagonist, who escapes at the end of the chapter. I both love and get annoyed by this simple formula. It gets old after awhile, so I am going to take a break from reading anymore Barsoom novels.
