This was our book club choice for May. I have not read The Forgotten Garden or any of Kate Morton's other books, so I wasn't sure what I should expect.

While the back and forth between characters and time periods took some getting used to, I was hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed the gothic elements, right down to the castle burning at the end like Rebecca or Jane Eyre.

The characters were so interesting and well-developed. The story ends a bit tragically--mostly because most of the characters never learn the truth that Edie did. And I don't even know if Edie actually learned the truth about Juniper, or about what happened to Thomas. It was sad, for sure. Hiding the truth never turns out so well in the end!

I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading more of Kate Morton's stories.
