As a nurse who has worked one too many night shifts I really enjoyed reading Nightshifted by Cassie Alexander. Although the hospital and it's trappings and jargon are basically only used as a backdrop for the paranormal story, it made for a nice change in reading.

The story includes humans interacting with vampires (both day-timers and nightshifters: a not-so-sly wink at nursing shifts), shape-shifters, and zombies. The main character, Edie Spence, RN, is a fairly new nurse who has recently started a new job working on a special unit in a county hospital which serves paranormal clients. As this is the first book of the series, Edie and her world are introduced: her co-workers, family, and would-be love interests.

This book is light reading, written in a casual style that makes for a pleasant diversion. I recommend this book for readers who appreciate paranormal fiction, especially those in the medical or nursing profession.
