bookshelves: borrowed, borrowed-from-frank, read-in-2012, comics-graphic-novels

My roommate let me borrow these, since they're more modernized as origin stories for the Avengers and kind of led in more, or at least a little bit better, to the movie. And I can definitely see how some of the things from the movie might have been influenced by these books- like the entire character and look of Nick Fury, for example, and a lot of the other ways that SHIELD was portrayed and visually looked from the books (the helicarrier, the prison container for the Hulk, the way Black Widow and Hawkeye looked and acted).

But the actual characters themselves, were really just not very likeable. They seemed to be written without a lot of warmth or humor that informs the same characters in the regular comics-verse, and everyone was harsher and colder and just... less of themselves.
