Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #21)
by Laurell K. Hamilton

I read this book without a lot of hope. I'm still pissed about the fight with Marmee Noir in Hit List (or lack of one...sorry you can't build something up for 20 books and end it...like that). I'm glad I didn't go into this book with a lot of hope.
It felt like I've read this before. Anita angsting about the men in her life, Anita angsting about being a monster, Anita angsting about the young man in her life. Angst about what she did to Nicky. (Tip: grown scary men should not be named Nicky. Nick. Nick.) I need a t-shirt: Anita's been there done that and will do it again. Angst should not fill up this many pages. Angst does not equal conflict.
And there are now...way too many characters that not even LKH can keep track. Vivian's name has been changed to Vanessa, there were no wolves, not even a peak of Jason, and I was curious as to why. The bad guys were around for the first half of the book then the last chapter (not including the typical - by the way this is what happens after) where I really wanted someone to die. You know what would be heart breaking and I'd love to read? Anita losing one of her hisem. Not someone like Haven but someone she actually loves. I kept waiting...alas...no. Gotta write scared, Ms. LKH. Not angsty but scared.
There was no mention of the fact that what's-his-scary-assed-face from Hit List is now a monster. There wasn't even a mention about their suck-ass killing of Marmee Noir.
Angst. That's all I got. Same ol' same ol' angst. I guess when you start to have no hope that the next book will be better (or hell...an improvement) it's time to just...walk away. Heave a tired sigh and walk away.

I'm struggling to finish this damn book, and am tempted to put it down, and walk away for a bit. You've pretty much nailed this book on the head.

I struggled with it too, Christina. Had I put it down, I doubt I'd pick it up again.I did find myself contemplating reading the earlier books as it's a reading weekend but decided not too. This series has exhausted me.
Vivian! I thought I wasn't insane. Also struggling to finish. Have it from the library and it was due back yesterday. :(

It is still sitting by my bed. I've read a couple other books since then, and I keep looking at it thinking I should pick it up. However, I'm not feeling it, and it keeps getting bumped down the list. Maybe someday! lol
She also changed Willy's girlfriends name, it was Hannah in book 6 then the character had a name change later. It's bad when an author can't remember their own characters names. I swear she needs a new editor!
