I liked Devil's Gate, though I wished it were longer. I liked the pairing, smooth, calm, vampire lawyer Duncan and medusa medical examiner Seremela and the framework for the story was good, but would have been liked everything to be a bit more fleshed out - the conflict is easily resolved and Duncan and Seremela's relationship moves from admiring acquaintances to thoughts of forever quickly too. And really I think that being short, I'd have been happy without Harrison trying to connect the dots to a HEA - the I love you's were to much, I'd have preferred sticking to I am falling in love with you (or I could fall in love with you) Still, nits aside, I enjoyed the story and am looking forward both to the next short - the traveling tarot deck linking the shorts has passed to a dark fae - and the next full length book which has Pia and Dragos back in the lead and a contest to fill in Rune and Tiago's empty spots in Drago's cadre which sounds like fun.
