Credit to Perotta for not making this book a slog to get through. A decent concept, a nice twist on the end of the world as we know it theme.

But early on, I wondered if Perotta received this idea at a dinner party, joked about what would happen if some self-righteous character from his past was left behind in the Rapture (or maybe just saw one too many Left Behind books in the Boise airport) and started writing on a plane.

The characters were flat, the action mostly un-tense, it wasn't particularly funny and certainly wasn't insightful. Props to Perotta for making characters who are familiarly flawed, but a demerit to him for not fleshing those flaws into characters.

Erica I have this and I like Tom Perrotta, but with you and Dora both not liking this one very much, if it doesn't grab me within 30 pages or so, I'll put it down.
