Well researched book by a seasoned war journalist. Even though the title would lead you to think this guy has a serious bias, he lays out evidence that makes you agree with him. I think the most telling part of the book is the lack of strategic planning on the part of our government. The civilian planners for the war it appears decided to follow the Powell doctrine at first - don't start you cannot win, do it decisively, and get out. We were going to topple Saddam - end of story. Unfortuantely, no planning occured for what happened after we got him, nor was there a good exit strategy. We didn't plan for enough troops at the onset.....and there you have it -- a fiasco. Mr. Ricks companion book, The Gamble, picks up in 2006-2007 when we are losing.
