Incredible yet prescient, thought-provoking, and intense (even intensely quiet), Benson, writing from the early 20th century, conveys the inner lives of the seeking soul and the skeptic, presenting a dystopia that is at once chillingly recognizable. I couldn't put this book down. It may not entirely appeal to you if you are not familiar with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and some of the more traditional Catholic practices, yet he weaves this aspect throughout the text so beautifully. I highly recommend this stunning book. I also utilized Google Translator for a little help with the Latin which peppers the chapters and contributes greatly to its climax. Don't be frightened away by its unique aspects.
