This is the first novel of a trilogy. It is set in an imaginary world a with medieval elements.
The initial scene is the best in my opinion. Gerard is climbing the side of a cliff to harvest the eggs of bird of prey. During the climb he finds a magical ring while his brother Hyden forms a bond with a chick whose egg has been just harvested by Gerard. The book follows their separate adventures.
The third main character of the book is Mikahl, the squire of the strongest king of the region. Just before dying the kind gave Mikahl a mission that brings him to join Hyden and his friends.
The plot is complex and interesting but I find difficult to believe that so many characters could form such a friendship in so little time.
