really liked it

First of all, I think the cover is sort of strange and doesn't really fit with the book. More importantly, I was pleasantly surprised by The First Husband. Far from being typical chick lit, this is a serious look at what it takes to make a successful relationship. Dave's writing just gets better and better, and I enjoyed this even more than her previous novels. I love this description: "We loved each other in the difficult, unusable way where you took turns doing it, instead of ever managing to do it at the same time." The plot moves along at a nice pace and I was kept guessing as to how it would end. I found the ending to be pleasantly satisfying; the main character is relatable and learns from her past experiences. The continued references to her travel column are a little distracting for me, as are the repeated usage of phrases like "that was when I realized..." or "which was when..." I'd prefer for her to simply get the story out there -- because it's a good story.
