I am used to Scalzi's particular sense of humor - and I very much enjoy it - but I am always taken by surprise by the effectiveness of his romances. This was not at all a book that I expected to be tearing up at, but the very last bit...

Otherwise, it's great fun, even to a non-Trekkie like me, and the format (a novel with three codas!) worked really well for me. I hesitate to say more about it, because while it wouldn't be totally destroyed by spoilers, it's more fun if you are just along for the ride.
