Richard Ford's "Canada" is a book that in all likelihood will go down as one of the best books of 2012 without question. The story focuses on the life of Dell Parsons who at the age of 15 has his parents rob a bank & then who gets sent to live in Saskatchewan. Ford's story is told in 3 parts & in a detail that make this book impossible to put down. You follow Dell & his twin sister Berner as they experience the robbery their parents commit & the growing up process that ensues with it. Then with Dell's time in Saskatchewan the story switches gears and characters as an entirely different phase of this 16th year of Dell's life ensues as he completes a journey that is remarkable for anyone especially at 15. Ford does a superb job of storytelling & the emotions in this book are powerful & will stick with you through the end. The ending is a bit short but is appropriate enough to almost make it seem as if this book were a work of non-fiction instead of fiction. Very well put together in all aspects & very easily a book that will be talked about for years to come.
