Really pleased with this read. Very few authors excel at world building like Melissa Marr. Carnival of Souls may be her most lush and macabre yet. It's vividly imagined and leaves the reader eager for more. Alternating between characters was a nice touch to give us the scope of the world and illuminate the dynamics and character motivation. Sometimes the subject matter is pretty raw and dark but it's honest, not gratuitous. This book serves as an introduction, a bold set-up for what looks to be a promising new series from a wicked imagination. Recommended for current Marr fans and readers who love the beauty of the darkly supernatural. Ready for the next one! :)
