really liked it
bookshelves: underappreciated-greats

This is the first novel by the first Japanese author to win the Nobel Prize. The translator claimed that this book has the feeling of haiku, and it's difficult to disagree. While the first half seems to meander, the second moves through remarkable scenes and heartbreaking revelations with precision and swiftness. I'll be thinking about this story for weeks.
