What did I think of this book? Well that isn't an easy question to answer. I like James Swain's books. I like his Tony Valentine character. But this is a stand alone. Ok not a problem. The storyline was a good one. What really has me in a pickle is the way the book is written. If this book was written for the YA (young adult) set, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I would then understand that the reasoning for having to explain EVERYTHING more than once and not give the reader the benefit of automatically understanding certain scenarios as in an adult read. The main character, Peter, was trying very desperately to develop a socially acceptable magician with a little monster on the side and it was hard to believe. His girlfriend, Liza, came off as a spoiled high schooler giving to hissy fits at inopportune times. These are supposed to be mature adult people so I think the characters actions were unacceptable. Even the supporting characters were treating Peter as if he were an immature teen. I did give the book a good chance to redeem itself by actually finishing it. I struggled through it and I took longer then I normally do to read a book. James Swain, you missed with this book.

I am having a difficult time getting into the storyline, there's nothing exciting to get into. Oh there are chases, and near miss death, etc, but everytime I read it, its followed up with something stupid and I lose the interest."
